Contrariando as expectativas, a banda de rock Arcade Fire foi premiada com o Grammy de Álbum do Ano, o principal da cerimônia, por "The suburbs". O grupo de Montreal concorria com Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry e Lady Antebellum na categoria.
A premiação foi realizada neste domingo (13), em Los Angeles.
Lady Gaga e seu casulo também foram centro das atenções durante a cerimônia. A cantora, que chegou carregada dentro de um “ovo” e só saiu dele quando subiu ao palco, foi premiada na categoria Melhor Álbum Pop por “The fame monster”.
Durante o show, ela cantou “Born this way”, sua nova faixa. Dançou cercada de bailarinos e tocou em um piano decorado com cabeças de bonecas.
Eminem, a principal aposta da noite, levou apenas como Álbum de Rap nas principais categorias, por "Recovery".
A noite teve ainda shows de Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger e Cee Lo Green.
